Items which are painted are painted using water based paints rather than oil based paints. While there are downsides to water based over oil we think that saving the planet is more important.
All our steel is sourced from Kloecknor Steel. A link to their website section on sustainability can be found here.
Where we use new timber we like, if possible, to source it from Blainslie Sawmill which is less than five miles from our workshop. All the timber is sourced from local forests.
Reused timber comes from our Stow neighbours Borders Firewood.
To us, sustainable means trying not to use finite resources. However, we know we’re not perfect but believe that by all of us trying imperfectly we make more progress than just some of us being perfect. Where we can, we like to use products that can either be recycled or reused. Even better, we think, is if we’re the ones able to reuse. Reuse isn’t always financially cheaper but as well as giving you a warm glow it also often comes with more character than new materials.
